When you arrive one of the team will bring you into the room. I will have fresh pot of the tea of the day waiting for you, it is decaffeinated, either Rose, Chamomile, Moringa or Mullein.
As a new client I will get you to complete client intake and consent forms, this is necessary so we can talk through any past or present health issues that may be impacted by having a massage. This gives me the ability to best support you and your body so you get the most out of your experience. I also like to see what you would like and then we work out a plan so you get what you want and need. This can take up to 15 minutes.
What oils do you use? The massage oil I use is Melrose H20 Oil which is water soluble and unscented it is also gentle on clothes. I also use Jojoba, Do Terra blends and Ahimsa essential oils located in Brisbane for 35 years and the perfect place for getting certified organic oils (which in my experience rare). Yes you can bring your own massage oils.
Do I need to undress? No. All clients need to leave underwear on, however you can be fully clothed and I can just access arms and legs, face, head and neck. Your comfort is my priority.
Pressure of massage? This is your choice light, medium or firm. However, all being said pressure is so subjective so please let me know, if it is uncomfortable. Sometimes I will be quite light and often this is when I am feeling through the lymphatic blocks which sit just between the underside of your skin and muscle although I might be light these may feel quite painful at times. I will always check with you before I apply an elbow, however regions in and around glutes, calves and between shoulder blades will be quite tender , so let me know and we can work on ways to release these areas without too much discomfort.
Bruising or Pain? The only time you might have bruising is if you have cupping with me or you are generally prone to bruising. My massage techniques may leave some areas a little red and tender for a couple of days. I will always advise you to drink plenty of water (keep electrolytes up) and add magnesium to support your body do it's detox.
Exercise after massage? Yes a gentle walk is great for moving the lymph system, just no full on sessions at a gym within 12-24 hours.
Coming when you are unwell or had a medical procedure? If you are feeling like you might be coming down it is best to reschedule as having a massage will stimulate your immune response and your symptoms might worsen. Equally depending on medical procedure or having a baby it is best to give your body 6 weeks to recover.
Vaccination and Massage
Massage is contraindicated within 72 hours of a vaccine being administered. This is the period that a person is likely to experience common vaccine side effects, such as headache, muscle and joint pain and fever. Massage will stimulate your immune system which will further add stress to your body.
Hydration
Please drink good water to assist with your body eliminating excess toxins and waste. For clients that are not big water drinkers, Liquid IV is a product that helps hydration I have seen clients skin go from very dry to very hydrated in a few weeks. Hydration is so important for your overall wellbeing, however even just from joint and muscle pain. Add a good quality magnesium, for muscles Magnesium Glycinate, or speak to your health practitioner for what suits you.
Pregnancy and Massage
Yes massage whilst pregnant can be so good for Mum and Baby, providing lots of feel good hormones. I recommend pregnancy massage from 12 weeks. If you have diabetes, gestational, or a complex fertility history it is best you get a medical clearance from your birthing team, GP, Midwife or Obstetrician. A pregnancy massage from 12 weeks is done whilst you are side lying, this ensures you and your baby are comfortable while taking strain off ligaments, relieving pressure on spine and supporting circulation. During your massage I use Denton's Pregnancy Pillow which slips under your tummy whilst you are on your side.
Note: I have no affiliations with above mentioned products.
